Tell Your Members of Congress: Protect Farmed Animals
The Animal Legal Defense Fund is proud to announce that Congresswoman Jayapal (WA – 07) introduced the Transparency in Depopulation Act in Congress today, and now Congress needs to hear from you!
This bill will protect farmed animals from the cruel depopulation method called “ventilation shutdown” (VSD). Today, you can help put a stop to this inhumane practice by signing the below letter and telling your Members of Congress to support the Transparency in Depopulation Act.
Farmed animals are some of the most vulnerable members of our society, and they deserve to be protected from cruelty. That is why I’m asking you to support the Transparency in Depopulation Act. Innocent animal victims deserve justice.
This critical bill will protect animals from arguably the cruelest depopulation method, “ventilation shutdown” (VSD). In VSD, farmed animals are killed by the thousands, or even millions, as they endure unimaginable suffering. They are packed in a sealed barn or warehouse and left there to die as the temperature and CO2 levels increase until the animals suffocate or are cooked alive. Sometimes excess gas or heat is used, and this is known as “ventilation shutdown plus” (VSD+).
The Transparency in Depopulation Act would prohibit federal funding from going toward VSD and VSD+, and it would call for more accountability and greater transparency surrounding the mass killing of farmed animals (also known as “depopulation” by the industry).
Imagine the agony and pain endured by these animals. You can help put a stop to this inhumane practice.
As a member of the Animal Legal Defense Fund, I support this bill and I hope you will vote to support this bill. Thank you.
