Dog stuck in car

Tell Your State Legislators: No animal deserves to suffer and die in a hot car!

Dear State Legislators:

Every year, dogs suffer and die when they’re left out in the heat — especially in hot cars. On hot days, the temperature inside a car can rise almost 20 degrees in 10 minutes. That’s when a car can become a death trap for a dog — and too often, those who cause the suffering or death of a dog in this manner face no punishment.

As a resident of {user_data~State~this state}, I support the passage of strong laws that criminalize abandoning animals in vehicles when conditions threaten their health and safety, and ensures that perpetrators who abandon dogs to suffer and die in hot cars are held accountable for the crimes with appropriate sentences.

We cannot allow this cycle of senseless tragedy to continue. We must protect dogs and hold perpetrators who kill animals in any way accountable with effective sentences that prevent future animal deaths. With summer heat surging and animal lives at risk now, I urge you to take this matter seriously and do everything in your power to protect defenseless animals. Thank you.

Sincerely,
